Keynotes are presentations Apple Inc. gives to announce new products or services to the world. Recently, they have been in March, June or July, and September for iPad announcements, WWDC, and a Special Event (iPhone or iPod touch announcement) respectively. They were commonly called Stevenotes by Apple fan-boys due to the iconic Steve Jobs being the conductor of the presentation. That name has since dissapated because of his passing. The name Keynote comes from the fact that Apple's flagship presentation editor, Keynote is used for the presentations.
