A golden master build (GM) is typically the final build of a piece of software in the beta stages for developers. Typically, for iOS, it is the final build before a major release, however, there have been a few exceptions.

Builds declared Golden Master

  • 2.0 - 5A345 (5A347 was release)
  • 3.0 - 7A341
  • 4.0 - 8A293 (release had no Game Center, but contained same build number)
  • 4.1 - 8B117
  • 4.2 - 8C134, 8C134b
  • 4.2.1 - 8C148 (iPhone 3GS received 8C148a for release)
  • 4.3 - 8F190
  • 5.0 - 9A334
  • 6.0 - 10A403
  • 6.1 - 10B141, 10B142, 10B143, and 10B144 (called beta 5 by Apple, but was technically a golden master)
  • 7.0 - 11A465
  • 7.1 - 11D5169b, 11D5167 and 11D5169
  • 8.0 - 12A365 and 12A365b
  • 8.0.1 - 12A5402
  • 8.0.2 - 12A5405
  • 8.1 - 12B5411
  • 8.1.1 - 12B5435
  • 8.2 - 12D5508
  • 8.3 - 12F5069
  • 8.4 - 12H5143
  • 8.4.1 - 12H5321
  • 9.0 - 13A340 and 13A341

Notes

From iOS 8.0.1 onwards, the "5" in the GM build is a fake number to allow upgrading from a beta.
