OdysseusOTA2 is downgrading utility that allows several 32-bit devices to be downgraded to iOS 8.4.1. It is very similar to OdysseusOTA, but is distributed separately and has its own version numbering. Like Odysseus and OdysseusOTA, it only works with devices that are jailbroken. Of the compatible devices, those with an A6 SoC can be updated to iOS 9.3.5 and jailbroken with Phœnix. OdysseusOTA2 should not be confused with OdysseusOTA v2.x, the second major version of OdysseusOTA.
How it works
It is not possible to OTA update directly from iOS 6 to iOS versions above iOS 8.4.1. As a consequence, iOS 8.4.1 is still signed for OTA updates, to allow devices on iOS 6 to update in two steps instead of using a computer. OdysseusOTA2 exploits this and allows all compatible devices to be restored from any jailbroken iOS version, using the same technique as OdysseusOTA.
Compatibility
All 32-bit devices that were compatible with both iOS 6 and iOS 8.4.1 can be downgraded:
- iPad2,1 (iPad 2 WiFi)
- iPad2,2 (iPad 2 GSM)
- iPad2,3 (iPad 2 CDMA)
- iPad2,4 (iPad 2 Mid 2012)
- iPad2,5 (iPad mini 1 WiFi)
- iPad2,6 (iPad mini 1 GSM)
- iPad2,7 (iPad mini 1 Global)
- iPad3,1 (iPad 3 WiFi)
- iPad3,2 (iPad 3 CDMA)
- iPad3,3 (iPad 3 GSM)
- iPad3,4 (iPad 4 WiFi)
- iPad3,5 (iPad 4 GSM)
- iPad3,6 (iPad 4 Global)
- iPhone4,1 (iPhone 4S)
- iPhone5,1 (iPhone 5 GSM)
- iPhone5,2 (iPhone 5 Global)
- iPod5,1 (iPod touch 5)
The iPhone 5C started on iOS 7 and is therefore not compatible (and never will be). Only three bundles are included in the download (iPhone4,1, iPhone5,1 and iPhone5,2). Support for other devices can be added by putting corresponding bundles in the FirmwareBundles folder (a link to these bundles can be found below).
Version history
Version | Date | Changes |
---|---|---|
1.0 | 19 Oct 2015 | Initial release |
1.0.2 | 22 Oct 2015 | iPhone5,1 bundle is added |
1.0.3 | 13 Jun 2016 | iPhone4,1 bundle is added |
1.0.4 | 13 Jun 2016 | Fixes compatibility with OS X El Capitan |
iPhone 5C cannot be downgraded, so version 1.0.1 was pulled and the iPhone5,4 bundle was removed from version 1.0.2.
