Generic network access is the protocol by which devices (including non-SIM devices) use the internet to connect to carrier services. Apple markets this feature as "Wi-Fi Calling" (for SIM devices) and "Wi-Fi Calling on supported iCloud-connected devices" (for non-SIM devices).
