Game Center was added in iOS 4.1 (or 4.2 for the iPad) for all devices except the iPhone 3G, first generation iPod touch and the iPhone. It allows developers to add social features to their game applications without relying on their own infrastructure for features such as multiplayer gaming, achievements and leaderboards.
