Editing the rootFS
Hey there, I have an interesting quandary. So, I vfdecrypted the rootFS dmg from the 8J2 IPSW. Then, I googled how to make the DMG read/write, which I did. So now, (after making a duplicate of the read/write, just in case) I have an 8J2 rootFS without several core apps, and /etc/fstab has been edited, just because. My question is, is it safe to put this new rootFS IPSW onto my iPhone? I'll make a backup/xbackup (jailbreak apps) of everything, for obvious reasons. I just really want to try this out, to see what it does, and how it works. Thanks!! --rdqronos 22:43, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- No, iTunes will error you out because it sees that the check sum on it is different and because the DMG is still unencrypted. You need to get xPwn and encrypt it back up. I would just get sn0wbreeze's source code and mod it a bit. --Balloonhead66 23:28, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've downloaded xPwn before... I have no freaking idea how to use it. Any help for a n00b would be really great. And also, is there a way to disable the sum check? --rdqronos 00:29, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
