What is iREB?
iREB is a GUI application that uses iTunnel. It uploads 3 pwned files, so that iTunes can accept custom IPSW firmware/downgrade to lower firmwares. For S5L8900 devices, it uploads the following:
- iBSS.MODEL.RELEASE.dfu
- WTF.MODEL.RELEASE.dfu
- WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu
For S5L8920 S5L8922 & S5L8930 devices, it triggers a Heap Overflow and uploads a pwned:
- iBSS.RELEASE
iREB is NOT a jailbreak. It just enables custom firmware made by sn0wbreeze to be restored to the iDevice .
Why cant it work with the later-generation devices?
It will be supported soon as there is a bootrom exploit available to upload iBSS but it will be a tethered boot.[1]
