This chip helps detect movement in the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Newer devices also include a gyroscope, which allows 6-axis movement detection. this chip is a STmicroelectronics lis331DL [1]

The Accelerometer has 2 sensitivity settings Single click and Double click.

Single click is used by the ipad's springboard to detect rotational movement.

Double click is used by most games.
