Jailbreak Monte

This is a jailbreak that was created by MuscleNerd to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered on newer devices. This is a so-called backup solution, because comex had more problems or for other reasons didn't finish his untethered solution on time.

Technical Details

Probably parts of the firmware get replaced with parts of the iOS4.2b3. Someone with more knowledge on this subject please describe this in more detail.

Requirements

  • redsn0w version 0.9.7 (beta 1-6)
  • a Mac computer, as this version of redsn0w does not support Windows
  • a developer account (the paid one for 99US$ a year) or an illegal copy of iOS4.2 beta 3
  • saved SHSH for your device for version 4.2b3

Status

Monte has been released as a beta program to a bigger audience. Each release fixed some problems. For details see redsn0w. The current version still has the following issues:

  • no Windows version
  • porting Monte back to 4.1
  • data-restore with iTunes erases the jailbreak
  • ? (DRM iBooks etc.?)
