EtasonJB (also spelt etasonJB and #EtasonJB) is an untethered jailbreak for all 32-bit devices (except Apple TV), running iOS 8.4.1. It was developed by tihmstar and exploits the same vulnerabilities as Home Depot. The first public version, RC2, was released on September 19, 2017 and is installed by sideloading an IPA with Cydia Impactor. It is, for reasons not yet known, incompatible with the iPhone 5.[1]
History
The development started after Phœnix was released, and on 6 September, 2017 tihmstar announced that he had ported the Trident exploits to iOS 8.4.1. Regular updates on the development were published, and the name and imminent release were announced eleven days later, on the 17th. The first public release coincided with the release of iOS 11, on the 19th.
The name is a pun on eta son, a phrase commonly used to mock uncivilized “jelbrekers” who beg for an ETA (son is also short for soon or never).
